A bond whose issuer’s prompt payment of interest and principal at maturity is considered relatively safe by a nationally recognized statistical rating agency, as indicated by a high bond rating (e.g., “Aaa” by Moody’s Investors Service, or “BBB” or better by Standard & Poor’s Corporation).
