Linked Accounts

Trading Term

Multiple Interactive Brokers accounts that are linked together under a single username and password. In Client Portal, you can:

  • link to an existing account,
  • create a new account that is automatically linked to yours, or
  • link to an existing Advisor- or Broker-managed account.

In addition:

  • Advisors can also link multiple existing accounts for a single client under a single username and password.

Once multiple accounts are linked, you will be able to access Trader Workstation, WebTrader, MobileTrader, iTWS and Client Portal for any of the consolidated accounts using a single username and password. In addition, market data subscriptions are charged once for linked accounts rather than charged separately for each linked account (market data subscriptions are charged per terminal/computer). Linked accounts are different from institutional accounts, which typically have a Master Account User (such as an Advisor or Broker) and client or sub accounts that are “linked” to the Master Account. Though you can also link your account to an existing Advisor- or Broker-managed account, this is not the same thing as an Advisor account, under which the Advisor Master Account User invites clients to open client accounts, and the client accounts have their own usernames and passwords.
