Private Equity

Trading Term

Capital that is not quoted on a public exchange. Investors and funds directly invest private equity into private companies or conduct buyouts of publicly traded companies, resulting in a delisting of the public equity. The assets are raised through the contributions of retail and institutional investors and the strategies involve taking long holding positions and committing large amounts of cash as a means to fund new technologies, expand working capital, make acquisitions, or strengthen a balance sheet.
