We invite computational finance professors to supplement their classwork with the IBKR’s Student Trading Lab. The program offers access to US and overseas financial products around the world from a single unified platform, in a safe paper-trading environment.

In addition, users can explore IBKR’s Python and Excel APIs to develop risk analysis skills, trading apps and data science knowledge.

Here is how professors can get started:

  1. Create an educator’s account through the Student Trading Lab program. Click here to start your application now.
  2. Invite your students from our Client Portal. Look for the “Invite” menu and paste the students’ email addresses. They will get an invitation email with a link to set up a simulated account.
  3. Create your own trading account from Client Portal. Just send an invitation to yourself and set up your own sub-account.
  4. Download the Trader Workstation (TWS) software from here.
  5. Download the Trader Workstation (TWS) API software, which comes with a sample, from here.
  6. Review the resources provided via the API Guide and Production and Beta Release Notes.
  7. Check out our API tutorials. Article such as “How To Place Orders Using the IBKR TWS Python API” and “How to Request Market Data via the Python API” feature video tutorials.
  8. Visit the Traders’ Academy API page for courses on Python, Excel, and R.

Finally, be sure to explore the Student Trading Lab for Educators page for additional information.
