Box Office Battle: ‘Black Panther 2’ Wins Dismal Weekend With Another $11.1M

“Violent Night” placed number 2 with another $8.7M

“Box Office Battle” is The Fly’s weekly roundup of what movies topped the weekend’s box office.

Marvel and Disney’s (DIS) “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever” easily won this weekend’s domestic box office with an estimated $11.1M in its fifth outing for a total of $409.8M. The movie has earned $767.8M worldwide. The weekend was uneventful otherwise, with overall ticket sales coming in at $37M, the second-worst of the year after the weekend of January 28-30, according to CinemaScore.

BOX OFFICE RUNNER-UPS: 

Comcast (CMCSA) subsidiary Universal and 87North’s “Violent Night” placed number 2 with a $8.7M for a domestic cume of $26.7M. Behind it was Disney Animation’s “Strange World” with $3.6M for a domestic tally of $30.5M and $53.5M globally. “The Menu” placed number 4 with $2.7M from 2,710 cinemas. Rounding out the top five, Sony (SONY) and Black Label Media’s Korean War drama “Devotion” earned an estimated $2M.

WEEKEND BOX OFFICE:

  1. “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever” – $11.1M
  2. “Violent Night” – $8.7M
  3. “Strange World” – $3.6M
  4. “The Menu” – $2.7M
  5. “Devotion” – $2M

Other publicly traded companies in filmmaking include Warner Bros.’ (WBD), Paramount (PARA), and Lionsgate’s (LGF.A).
