Welcome to Your New IBKR Institutional Account

Study Notes:

Welcome to Interactive Brokers. Now that you have opened an institutional account at Interactive Brokers, there are some steps you can take to configure the account to meet your needs. The lessons in this course will review account configurations such as subscribing to market data, setting up trading restrictions, adding users to the account, and more.

As an orientation, there are a couple of different platforms to choose which one best fits your needs. Pick one platform or use them all. The platforms can be accessed with the same login credentials.

The IBKR Client Portal is a web-based platform: check quotes, place trades, run reports, and manage account settings and market data subscriptions. For multi-level accounts such as financial advisors and introducing brokers, the portal also has client relationship tools including onboarding clients, configuring fees, and more. The portal can be accessed from the IBKR website and clicking the Login button. 

Investors can also trade or manage their account on the go with either the IBKR GlobalTrader app or the IBKR Mobile app.

Trader Workstation (or TWS) is our flagship desktop platform designed for active traders and investors who trade multiple products and require power and flexibility. To install TWS, click the login button on our website and select Download Trader Workstation from the drop-down menu.

IBKR also offers API solutions to allow investors to build their own custom trading applications and automate any part of the trading process. For more information on API solutions and the platforms offered at IBKR, please see our website.

This free resource offers more than 75 curated courses containing over 500 Short Videos with study notes. Each course addresses a specific area such as Order Types or Fixed Income Trading for TWS for example.

The lessons in this course will detail some key setting configurations and support tools located in the portal. Depending on your account type, we also have dedicated courses for getting started.
