Fund Managers and Hedge Fund Advisors can quickly and easily connect their account to their third party Fund Administrator for read-only reporting access.

Study Notes:

Giving read-only access to a third-party Fund Administrator is an easy and seamless process through IBKR’s Hedge Fund Portal.  If your third-party fund admin already has an Administrator account on the IBKR platform, there are two main ways for Hedge Fund Advisors (HFA) or Fund Managers (FM) to link their accounts to their administrator.

How to Add a Fund Administrator via Investors’ Marketplace?

The first way is via IBKR’s Investors’ Marketplace. The Fund Manager or Hedge Fund Advisor can access the Investors’ Marketplace from the Hedge Fund Portal by clicking the Head & Shoulders icon in the upper right corner, followed by Settings. At the top of the page, they can click the Investors’ Marketplace button.

The Investors’ Marketplace lets individual traders and investors, institutions and third-party service providers meet and do business together. Note that information about a Third-Party Provider provided in the Marketplace is NOT a recommendation of that provider by Interactive Brokers. Interactive Brokers does not make any representations or warranties concerning the services provided by the Third-Party Providers.

For linking a fund administrator, the Fund Manager or Hedge Fund Advisor selects Administrators under the Administration section. Use the drop down to sort alphabetically or by number of years in the business. If the Fund Manager has a particular administrator in mind, they can use the search bar at the top to locate the provider.

Click the blue More Info button to view the providers contact information, services they provide and details of their firm such as number of clients and their fees.

When ready to submit the link request, they click the blue Link Account button at the bottom of the popup window. Their Administrator Account ID will automatically populate in the field. Click Continue to review a confirmation page and when ready clicking Continue once more to submit the link request to the administrator. The Administrator will receive the link request in their account which they will need to approve.

How to link to an Administrator that is on IBKR’s platform but not listed in Investors’ Marketplace?

If the third party fund administrator has an account at IBKR but is not listed within the Investors’ Marketplace, Fund Managers can still link their account to the desired administrator account.

From the Settings page, locate the Account Configuration section and select Manage Account Linking. Select Link My Existing Account to an Administrator and click Continue. Enter the administrator’s Account ID which should begin with the letter U. If the Fund Manager does not know the administrator’s account ID, they can contact their administrator directly who should be able to provide it to them. Once the account ID is entered, select Continue to review the confirmation page and click Continue once more to submit the request to the third-party administrator for approval.

How to assign an administrator to the sub-trading accounts?

Once the administrator approves the link request, the Fund Manager can give the administrator access to the sub-trading accounts. The Fund Manager can assign clients from the Settings page by clicking Manage Administrators under the Account Configuration section.

The Fund Manager will see the list of administrators that have approved the link request to their master account. The Fund Manager can click the blue information icon to view details on the Administrator and they can remove the Administrator by clicking the blue X icon.

Click the Configure gear icon to assign or remove access to the sub-hedge fund or sub-client accounts underneath the Fund Manager.

What if my Fund Administrator is not listed on the IBKR platform?

If your fund administrator does not have an IBKR Administrator account, they can initiate the application from the IBKR website. The Administrator account allows for reporting access and other administrative functions to multiple clients, funds, or sub accounts from a single login. Administrators have no access to funding, cannot trade, and have no access to IBKR trading platforms. Please see our website for more information on the Fund Administrator account type.
