This lesson provides an overview of the IBKR Student Trading Lab’s (STL) extensive toolkit of offerings, including the platforms, tools, and services available to college finance students. Through this introduction, we’ll highlight how STL participants, of all skill set levels, can experience a hands-on approach to a variety of use cases, including coursework that may involve computational finance, as well as technical and fundamental analyses, as part of their curriculum.

Study Notes:

The IBKR Student Trading Lab is a free, online offering for educators and participants of college-level finance courses who are seeking to blend finance, or computer science coursework, with real-world trading experiences.

Through this course, we’ll provide guidance into IBKR’s award-winning trading platforms and tools, along with our wealth of service offerings, including a vast array of educational tutorials – all of which are designed to provide college-level students with a hands-on experience to help master their learning objectives – and all at no cost.

Indeed, students participating in these instructor-led programs can reap the benefits from the Lab’s long list of resources – including innovative trading and analytics tools, available trading products, access to global markets, as well as an abundance of different order types and algos, customized reporting and risk management capabilities, and much more.

For example, did you know that the IBKR Student Trading Lab enables access to not only our flagship Trader Workstation (TWS) trading platform, but also to our Client Portal, IBKR GlobalTrader, and IBKR Mobile app- for those on-the-go, where you can easily trade, and check your account, right from your iOS or Android device?

In fact, educators and participants in the IBKR Student Trading Lab may enjoy several of the same benefits as our clients, including the ability to trade and invest in stocks, options, futures, currencies, and bonds, in both domestic and non-domestic markets across the globe – from New York to London to Hong Kong – as well as many others – along with a long list of different order types to help execute any trading strategy – from limit orders to complex algorithmic trading – all in a safe, simulated, paper trading environment.

Whether teaching, or participating, in a basic stock trading contest, or creating an order to execute a basket of stocks using an API, or simply engaging with our tools and tutorials as an integral part of their traditional course work, participants of all skill sets can enjoy the many advantages the Lab has to offer.

And by the end of this course – if you’re an educator, or a student, who’s been considering taking advantage of IBKR’s vast resources to enhance your learning experience, we’re sure you’ll want to get involved in the IBKR Student Trading Lab, and we’re looking forward to you joining us!
